Local in hedgerows and scrubland throughout much of England and Wales. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight found mainly around Portsmouth and Romsey with occasional records elsewhere. Wingspan 12-15 mm. The small size and dark fuscous-brown coloration of both fore- and hindwings are characteristic [Bradley]. Larva feeds on shoots of Hawthorn and Blackthorn, living between shoots spun together with silk.
