Very rare immigrant (less than 10 previous UK records) from northern and eastern Europe, recorded in Britain just once: one was caught in an actinic light-trap in Hampstead, London, on 21 September 2001. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 41-46 mm. Very similar to the nominate subspecies of
Conformist L. furcifera, and any suspected specimen of either should be retained for confirmation. Larva feeds on Alder, Silver Birch, Downy Birch and Hazel, no evidence of breeding in the UK.
