Nationally scarce, on moorland and grassland in parts of Scotland (ssp. assimilis) and on Shetland (ssp. marmorata). Unlikely to be recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 38-44 mm. Larva feeds on roots and lower stems of various grasses.
