Common in damp grassland, fens, heathland, moorland, woodland and gardens throughout much of the British Isles. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight fairly common to common in marshes and bogs and in open, grassy woodland in all three vice-counties. Wingspan 19-25 mm. Unmistakable. Larva feeds at night on False-brome, Tor-grass and Purple Moor-grass.
