Nationally scarce (Nb) on mountains and moorland, and in rocky areas, in Scotland. Unlikely to be recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 41-46 mm. The main confusion species is
Annulet Charissa obscurata, which has more dentate fasciae and hollow discal spots on fore- and hind-wing. Larva feeds on Yellow Saxifrage, Heather, Bell Heather, Cross-leaved Heath and Petty Whin.
