Extinct in the British Isles, formerly on heathland in the Vert Wood complex, near Laughton, East Sussex, where it was first collected around 1850 and last seen in June 1961. The only record in our area - an obvious wandering individual from the continent - was from Christchurch, Dorset (VC11) on 28th June 2017. Wingspan 25-29 mm. Fairly easy to separate from the superficially similar
Common Heath Ematurga atomaria. Larva feeds on Wild Thyme, Wild Marjoram and Heather, still found on mainland Europe.
