Very rare immigrant (less than 10 previous UK records) from eastern Europe. Recorded just once in Britain, a female to light at Bexley Heath, Kent, on 29 July 1962. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 22-29 mm. Can be separated from
C. permutatella and
C. speculalis, only by dissection of the genitalia. Larva feeds on various mosses, no evidence of breeding in the UK.
