Very rare immigrant from eastern Europe. Recorded just once in Britain, a female to light at Bexley Heath, Kent, on 29 July 1962. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 22-29 mm. Can be separated from C. permutatellus and C. speculalis, only by dissection of the genitalia. Larva feeds on various mosses.
