Nationally scarce (Na) in areas with scattered trees in parts of Aberdeenshire and Perthshire, rare elsewhere. Unlikely to be recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 22-29 mm. Distinguished from
C. pinella by the white stripe slightly narrower at base, the more oblique median cross-line and particularly by the narrow white subterminal line which is absent in
C. pinella; can be separated from
C. osthelderi, and
C. speculalis only by examination of genitalia [Goater]. Larva feeds on various mosses.
