Rare (proposed as a future Red Data Book species) in woodland, fens and marshes, and on river-banks and cliffs in parts of southern and eastern England. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 11-15 mm. Differs from
G. lunulana by the relatively broad, truncate forewing and the thicker and more strongly curved medio-dorsal blotch, which is usually dilated apically, and the well-developed ocellus [Bradley]. Larva feeds within seedpods of Vetch, over-wintering in a cocoon.
