Nationally scarce (Nb) on hedgerows, rough pastures and south-facing hillsides in parts of northern England, Scotland, northern Wales and in Ireland on the Burren. Unlikely to be recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 11-17 mm. Differs from
G. orobana by the relatively narrow and attenuate forewing, which has the medio-dorsal blotch more slender and less strongly curved and a weaker ocellus [Bradley]. Larva feeds within seedpods of Bitter Vetchling and Vetch, over-wintering in a cocoon.
