Nationally scarce (Nb) in pine woodland and on heathland in parts of eastern England and southern Scotland. In Hampshire three of the five records on the county database are from around Basingstoke. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 9-13 mm. Differs from C. coniferana and C. conicolana by the narrow but conspicuous transverse band of ground colour each side of the median fascia of the forewing and the distinct, white costal interspaces [Bradley]. Day-flying; most active in hot sunshine at midday and in the afternoon. Larva feeds within damaged bark of Scots Pine, subsequently feeding on resin.
