Local in waste ground throughout much of Britain, predominantly coastal in the north of its range and southern Ireland. In Hampshire widespread, but sparsely recorded away from the extreme south-east, and there is only one old report from the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 11-16 mm. The male is distinguished from both sexes of D. sedatana by having only sparse pale yellow irroration in the basal area of the forewing; the female resembles that of D. plumbana, so closely that examination of the genitalia is necessary to distinguish them [Bradley]. Larva feeds within roots of Ox-eye Daisy.
