Nationally scarce (Nb) in coniferous woodland throughout much of Britain and south-western Ireland. In Hampshire, historically records originated principally from Havant Thicket and Braishfield, but the present century has seen scattered records from elsewhere in the county. Distribution in Hampshire is similar to
E. subsequana. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 10-14 mm. Differs from
E. tedella by the tawny coloration of the forewing markings and the comparatively well-defined basal patch [Bradley]. Larva feeds on various conifers, living between needles spun together with silk.
