Local in pine woodland throughout much of Britain. In Hampshire there are scattered records but it is far from common, although there has been an apparent increase from 2005 onwards. The larva makes distinctive spinnings, but all county records have been taken at light or beaten from foliage. There have been no recent records from the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 13-15 mm. The orange-ferruginous coloration of the distal area of the forewing together with the rather conspicuous, subquadrate whitish dorsal blotch distinguish this species [Bradley]. Larva feeds on Scots Pine, living between needles spun together with silk.
