Local on moorland and heathland throughout much of the British Isles, more plentiful in uplands. In Hampshire locally common on heathland in the south, but in the north of the county the only recent records are from Mortimer West End. Recorded on the Isle of Wight for the first time at Totland in 2007. Wingspan 13-18 mm. Like A. achatana, this species differs from other Ancylids in retaining the fasciate markings; it is readily distinguished from A. achatana by its narrower, falcate forewing and lack of a large tornal blotch [Bradley]. Larva feeds on Bell Heather, over-wintering in a cocoon.
