Nationally scarce (Na) in marshes, on river-banks and other damp areas in parts of the British Isles. In Hampshire recorded from Brockenhurst and Leckford, with recent records only from Botley Wood and Titchfield Haven. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 10-14 mm. Superficially similar to
E. ustulana, but it is somewhat lighter in general coloration; the obscure markings and nondescript general appearance of both species distinguish them from others in the genus
Endothenia; differences in the biology and habitat can be a guide in separating the two species, but examination of the genitalia may be necessary for confirmation [Bradley]. Larva feeds on Marsh Woundwort.
