Nationally scarce (Nb) in marshes and on river-banks in parts of the British Isles, more numerous in the north. Goater (1974) references its presence as 'Hants, teste Vic. Hist. [Fassnidge]. The record requires confirmation'. It is therefore not on the county list and records of this species will be accepted unless the specimen is retained for examination. Wingspan 13-18 mm. Differs from P. palustrana by its broader and apically less angulate forewings [Bradley]. Larva feeds on various mosses.
