Nationally scarce (Na) in dry pastures, downland and sand-dunes in parts of the British Isles, but not in northern Scotland. Not recorded in the political counties of Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date, but it is found very locally in Dorset, and was found in the vice-county of South Hampshire (VC11) for the first time in 2013, at Hengistbury Head. Wingspan 11-14 mm. Distinguished from C. nana by the absence of ochreous suffusion in the ground colour of the forewing, and the narrower median fascia which is separate from the subbasal fascia on the costa [Bradley]. Larva feeds within seedheads of Sheep's-bit, over-wintering in a cocoon.
