Local in gardens, market gardens, fens and woodland throughout much of the British Isles. In Hampshire very local, but often abundant where it occurs, as at Emer Bog. On the Isle of Wight, distinctly uncommon. Wingspan 12-18 mm. Certain forms of this species closely resemble forms of A. laterana, from which reliably separated by dissection of the genitalia. Larva feeds on Garden Strawberry, Wild Strawberry and Marsh Cinquefoil, living within a spun or rolled leaf, causing sufficient damage to be a serious pest in some areas, over-wintering as an egg.
