Hantsmoths

Endangered (proposed as a future Red Data Book species) in woodland in southern England, also in Lancashire, Yorkshire, Caernarvonshire, Argyll and the Burren, Co. Clare. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 17-20 mm. The whitish apical area of the hindwing readily distinguishes C. rurinana from Pandemis species, and the relatively complete median fascia which is well developed on the dorsum, separates it from C. spectrana [Bradley]. Larva feeds on Honeysuckle, Dog-rose, Oak, Ash, Beech, Norway Maple and similar, living within a spun or rolled leaf.
