Vulnerable (proposed as a future Red Data Book species) in ancient woodland on chalky soils at various sites in Britain, from Gloucestershire to Sussex and from Yorkshire to Flint. In Hampshire larvae of this species were discovered in a wood near East Meon in 1982, they are difficult to locate, but continue to thrive in this one locality. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 19-22 mm. The main confusion species is A. angelicella but this species is smaller, and lacks the discal white dot (MBGBI Vol 4 part 1). Larva feeds on Sanicle, living between shoots spun together with silk.
