Scarce in ancient woodland on chalky soils at various sites in Britain, from Gloucestershire to Sussex and from Yorkshire to Flint. In Hampshire larvae of this species were discovered in a wood near East Meon in 1982, they are difficult to locate, but continue to thrive in this one locality. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 19-22 mm. The main confusion species is
A. angelicella but this species is smaller, and lacks the discal white dot (MBGBI Vol 4 part 1). Larva feeds on Sanicle, living between shoots spun together with silk.
