Endangered (proposed as a future Red Data Book species) in pine and larch woodland in southern England, where known only from Herefordshire, Hertfordshire and Wiltshire. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 9-13 mm. Main confusion species are B. lunaris and B. lambdella, but the base of the lambda-shaped black mark is broader than in B. lunaris, tapering gradually to upper process which is narrower and more pointed than in B. lambdella. Larva feeds on lichens growing on European Larch and Scots Pine.
