Endangered (proposed as a future Red Data Book species) in quarries and cliffs in parts of Dorset, a priority species under the UK Biodiversity Action Plan. First discovered at Portland, Dorset, and later found on the Isle of Purbeck, but unknown from any other locality in Britain or elsewhere. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 7-9 mm. Infurcitinea argentimaculella has similar colour and markings but more numerous white spots in the apical area and its wings are comparatively short and broad (MBGBI Vol 2). Larva feeds on algae growing on rocks, living within a movable case, over-wintering once or twice.
