Rare (proposed as a future Red Data Book species) in woodland and areas with scattered trees in parts of East Anglia, where first discovered in 2002 in the Mildenhall and Ipswich areas of Suffolk. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan male 5.2-6.8 mm, female 6.2-7.2 mm. More likely to be recorded in the larval stage; imago very similar to that of E. turbidella which see for differences. Larva mines leaves of Hybrid Black Poplar and Black Poplar, over-wintering as a pupa (E. turbidella mines only Grey Poplar).
