A very local species of parks and urban areas in central and southern England and Wales. Probably under-recorded in Hampshire, as it has been found to be locally common where the food plant exists. First recorded from the Isle of Wight in 2018. Wingspan 6.1-9.2 mm. This species may be separated from E. louisella, from which formerly thoroughly confused, by its pale collar, white as opposed to yellowish-white wing markings and (in most specimens) the narrower pale fascia. Larva mines fruits (autumn) and buds (spring) of Norway Maple.
