Nationally scarce (Nb) in broad-leaved woodland and rough grassland in parts of Scotland, northern England and north Wales. Unlikely to be recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 36-44 mm. There are a number of dark brown streaks along the costa, especially bordering the orbicular stigma, the shape and positioning of which are diagnostic. Larva feeds on various herbaceous plants such as Primrose, Cowslip, Common Sorrel, Sheep's Sorrel, Stinging Nettle, White Dead-nettle, Red Dead-nettle and Greater Stitchwort.
