Hantsmoths

A vulnerable Red Data Book species, in bogs, in a few sites in North Wales, and at Roudsay Wood in Cumbria. Unlikely to be recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 36-42 mm. The strongly pectinate antenna of the male and the rosy grey coloration of the forewing should preclude confusion with any other species, though in lamplight Ingrailed Clay Diarsia mendica or even worn Purple Clay Diarsia brunnea might be mistaken for it; each of these has a distinct, dot-like, black claviform stigma (MBGBI Vol 9). Larva feeds on catkins, buds and leaves of Bog-myrtle and Crowberry.
