Occurrence in the British Isles unconfirmed. This native of North America is included on the British list on the basis of an individual said to have been taken near Barnstable, north Devon prior to 1829. Wingspan 30-40 mm. Larva feeds on Tobacco and cereal crops, causing sufficient damage to be a serious pest in some areas, over-wintering as a pupa; no evidence of breeding in the UK.
