Very rare immigrant (less than 10 previous UK records) from salt-marshes in southern Europe, appearing on the south coast and apparently established at Freshwater on the Isle of Wight during the second half of the 19th Century, but recorded since 1876. Not recorded from Hampshire to date. Wingspan 36-40 mm. Possible confusion species include Shears Hada plebeja and Tawny Shears Hadena perplexa. Larva feeds on Sea Beet and Prickly Saltwort.
