Common in broad-leaved woodland, scrubland, parks and gardens throughout the British Isles. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight most frequent in areas of mature ash, less so in localities where the larval foodplant is the catkins of sallows or poplars. Wingspan 38-42 mm. A. circellaris. Larva feeds on Wych Elm, Aspen, White Poplar, White Poplar, Sallow and Ash, over-wintering as an egg.
