Very rare immigrant (less than 10 previous UK records) from central Europe and Fennoscandia, appearing in south-eastern England. First recorded at Dungeness, Kent, in August 1996, with four at Felixstowe in Suffolk in 2003/4. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 30-40 mm. Distinguished by the pale patch between the prominent basal streak streak and costa, but voucher specimen should be retained for confirmation of identification. Larva feeds on Perforate St John's-wort, no evidence of breeding in the UK.
