First recorded in Britain, at Bodenham, Herefordshire on 29 June 2006; while doubt was cast at the time about the natural provenance of this record, 2012 saw one trapped on 18th August at Chardstock, Devon and three the next day at Worthing, East Sussex, Dymchurch, Kent and Downgate, Cornwall, proving beyond doubt that this species is capable of primary migration. In 2013, reported from Portland, Dorset on 29th August and first recorded in Hampshire and Isle of Wight in Chilbolton, Hampshire in 2013 during a period of warm southerly winds. Another was found in the New Forest in 2022. Wingspan 22-25 mm. Fairly unmistakable. Larva feeds on various grasses and herbaceous plants, no evidence of breeding in the UK. A species that is spreading north in Europe; for example, it was first recorded in
Belgium in 2009, with a further sighting in 2013.
