Very rare immigrant (or more likely, an adventive) from North Africa or the Canary Islands, the only fully authenticated British record being of one from Sway, Hampshire on 29 Jul 1979 (Torlesse, 1980, Ent Rec J Var 92: 28). Wingspan 34-50 mm. It is unlikely that records of this species will be accepted unless the specimen is retained for examination. Larva polyphagous on various crops in its native range.
