Classification

Family:Erebidae
Subfamily:Erebinae
Genus:Clytie
Species:illunaris
Authority:(Hübner, 1813)

Recorded infrequently through accidental importation in produce from southern Europe. There is only one British record, of a larva, found on the bank of the River Trent at Amcotts, near Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, in June 1964, feeding at night on horse-radish. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 40-46 mm. It is unlikely that records of this species will be accepted unless the specimen is retained for examination. Larva in continental Europe feeds on Bog-myrtle and Tamarisk, no evidence of breeding in the UK.
