Local in deciduous, especially oak and beech, woodland throughout much of southern England, chiefly in the south-west. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight still common in areas of oak woodland, and may even be extending its range. Wingspan 27-30 mm. Could be confused with ab.
stramineola of
Dingy Footman E. griseola, which is larger, has the costa more strongly arched, and the thorax and abdomen yellow (MBGBI Vol 9). Larva feeds on lichens growing on Oak, Beech and Blackthorn, over-wintering as a pupa.
