Nationally scarce (Na) on chalk downland in parts of south-eastern England, from Dorset to Sussex. In Hampshire last reported in November 1984, from Crawley in vice-county 12, but it flies very late in the season and requires a concerted effort to locate; considered likely to persist on the chalk in the Alton area, and perhaps elsewhere. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 35-44 mm. Variable and rather nondescript for a 'prominent', but males can be recognised by their strongly bipectinate antennae. Larva feeds on Field Maple, over-wintering as an egg.
