Very rare immigrant (less than 10 previous UK records); the first record for the British and Channel Isles was one taken at Grouville Common Jersey on 10 October 2006 by Robert Woods and Pat Cordell, during a year which saw unprecedented migrant activity. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 42-46 mm. The larval foodplants are oak and Olive Olea europaea, hence the vernacular name adopted for this species on the British list. P. umbraria is distributed throughout southern Europe, Asia Minor and Algeria.
