Nationally scarce (Na) in bogs, moorland and heathland, in the central Scottish Highlands. Unlikely to be recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 31-34, female wingless. Female may be confused with female
Belted Beauty L. zonaria, but in
L. lapponaria the abdomen has a median line of orange markings. Larva feeds on Bog-myrtle, Bilberry, Eared Willow, Heather, Bell Heather and Cross-leaved Heath, over-wintering as a pupa.
