Local on the coast of Guernsey, where first discovered in 1990. Recorded for the first time in mainland Britain at Exmouth, Devon, in September 2006, and another was caught in Dorset in August 2009. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 46-52 mm. The most likely confusion species is
Scalloped Oak C. elinguaria, but
C. dardoinaria is darker and has a discal spot comprising four small dots. Larva feeds on Gorse and Broom.
