Local in woodland, hedgerows and scrub, particularly on calcareous ground throughout much of England, mostly in the south-east. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight rather uncommon, especially in the New Forest and on the Island. Wingspan 13-15 mm. The most likely confusion species is Slender Pug E. tenuiata, which see for differences. Larva feeds on flowers of Field Maple, over-wintering as an egg.
