Common in damp woodland, scrub, fens, sand-dunes, marshes, gravel pits and gardens throughout the British Isles; fairly common and well distributed in Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 14-16 mm. A fairly small, plain brown pug with a prominent, roundish, black central spot, most likely to be confused with Maple Pug E. inturbata, which is paler, more ochreous and has three dark patches along the termen. Larva feeds within catkins of Goat Willow, Grey Willow and Eared Willow, over-wintering as an egg.
