Local in woodland and hedgerows throughout southern England; fairly widespread and common across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 27-30 mm. The most likely confusion species is the much less common Cloaked Carpet E. biangulata, which differs in having irregularly-dentate outer edge of dark cross-band. Larva feeds on several species of chickweed and stitchwort, over-wintering as a pupa.
