Rare immigrant from southern Europe, appearing in many parts of Great Britain and Ireland. Far from annual, the best year was 1953 when there were 13. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight an extremely scarce immigrant, not recorded since 1975. Wingspan 72-115 mm. Unmistakable. Larva feeds on Oleander, Lesser Periwinkle and Greater Periwinkle, no evidence of breeding in the UK.
