Nationally scarce (Nb) on coastal sand-dunes and shingle beaches from Devon to Lincolnshire and Yorkshire. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight a rare coastal species which is very occasionally reported inland. Wingspan 18-22 mm. The characteristic shape of the forewing, together with dark costal band and fine median longitudinal stripe prevent confusion with any other species [Goater]. Larva feeds on various mosses.
