Hantsmoths

Local in fens, marshes, river-banks and gravel pits in parts of southern England and southern Wales, increasing in recent years and an occasional wanderer away from its breeding habitat. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight breeding colonies are widespread, and the moth can be quite common in some areas. Wingspan 23-29 mm. Female larger and plainer than male, but both sexes readily identifiable. Larva feeds within dead stems of Bulrush.
