An endangered Red Data Book species, in scrubland and mature oak woodland; 200-300 m (200-700 m in Europe), on the clay between Peterborough and Oxford; mainland Europe and southern Scandinavia. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight in recent years. Wingspan 37 mm. Larva feeds on Blackthorn.
