Common in all types of habitat; 0-600 m (0-2500 m in Europe) throughout much of the British Isles, but not in northern Scotland; mainland Europe and southern Scandinavia. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight widespread and common. Wingspan 63-69 mm. Larva feeds on Stinging Nettle and Pellitory-of-the-wall.
