Common in hedgerows, grassland, woodland edges and woodland clearings; 0-400 m (0-1700 m in Europe) throughout much of southern England, Wales and southern Ireland; mainland Europe. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight widespread and common. Wingspan 34-38 mm. Larva feeds on Bristle Bent, Sheep's Fescue, Red Fescue, Common Couch and other grasses.
