Common in scrub, woodland edges and hedgerows; 0-1200 m throughout much of southern Europe. Recorded in the late 1800s on the Isle of Wight, Suffolk and in Scotland; with further records in the 1980s from Kent and Jersey. Not recorded from Hampshire to date. Wingspan 50-68 mm. Larva feeds on Buckthorn.
