Locally common, in flower meadows and farmland; 0-1800 m throughout much of northern Europe. An uncommon but regular immigrant especially in the 1940s, thereafter only recorded very rarely. A very rare immigrant to Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 42-50 mm. Very similar to f.
